MinGeo 020 absolute D/I instrument using cable-less fluxgate magnetometer

Simple construction and low power consumption of FLUXSET magnetometer allows to put it together with a battery into a small box and place everything on the telescope of the theodolite. This way the whole unit moves together with the sensor during the measurement procedure. Any possible small magnetic moment will be canceled by this method.
The DIM consists of a steel free Zeiss THEO 020 A or B theodolite and a one axis FluxSet magnetometer mounted on its telescope at the opposite side where the sensor is mounted. The sensor is a Pandect LDC-A20 fluxgate sensor. A large-screen android tablet is included in the package of DIM equipment. In the tablet there is an android application named DIM, which is designed to facilitate the absolute magnetic measurement. The magnetometer and the tablet communicate via blue-tooth. Output of the magnetometer, GPS time (and position) battery charge level, BT connection quality and actual telescope position at the measurement sequence can be seen on the tablet screen. On a remote controller command data are stored in the tablet memory. After finishing the measurement session all data can be downloaded together with a session identifier.
The sensor alignement can adjusted by screws and the offset in the android program. Instrument charging needs 10 to 18 V DC or 100 to 240 V AC for convenient observatory and field use.
Operation time with one charge is more than 10 hours.

Measuring accuracy

  • The measurement range is ± 1200 nT but a bar display and an audio signal with ?4000 nT range helps the operator to find the measurement range. The magnetometer, tablet and remote controller can be charged from 5V DC.
